China holds the chairmanship of the BRICS this year and hosted the 14th BRICS Summit. Prior to the Leader's meeting, relevant government departments held a series of BRICS-related seminars recently. On May 19th, 2022, President Xi Jinping delivered a video address at the opening session of BRICS Foreign Ministers' meeting. On June 7th, The BRICS Seminar 2022 video conference, hosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and supported by the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution Innovation Center, was held in Beijing. Under the theme of "Towards High-quality Shared Development," more than 100 experts and scholars from China, Brazil, Russia, India, and South Africa carried out in-depth discussions on issues such as BRICS and International System, BRICS and Global Development, and BRICS and Coordination of Development Strategies.
Professor Hu Biliang, Executive Dean of Belt and Road School of Beijing Normal University attended the seminar and delivered a keynote speech on BRICS and Global Development. His speech mainly focused on three issues: first, the right direction of global development; second, China's development exploration and third, new ideas and new agendas for BRICS development.

Professor Hu Biliang believes that the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) sets a right direction for global development. He said that China has carried out successful exploration and made great achievements in reducing poverty, promoting economic growth, improving people's livelihood, and tackling climate change. BRICS countries could refer to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and China's successful experience for implementing new development strategies and advancing new development agendas, including accelerating poverty reduction, ensuring national food security, advancing low-carbon energy transition, building economic resilience, and maintaining a conducive environment for sustainable development.
