From November 6th to the 12th, Italian President Sergio Mattarella paid a state visit to China. On November 11, the president and his delegation arrived and started their first visit to Guangzhou. Pompeo Della Posta, an Italian professor at Belt and Road School (BRS) of Beijing Normal University (BNU), was invited to participate in related activities, highlighting BRS’s significant role in international academic exchanges.
On the evening of November 11, President Mattarella watched the opera Marco Polo at the Guangzhou Opera House, a representative work of ChinaItaly cultural exchange. Prof. Pompeo was invited to attend and experience this epic masterpiece that shows the history of the Silk Road and Sino-Italian exchanges, together with Chinese and foreign guests.
On the morning of November 12, President Mattarella met with representatives of the Italian business and academic fields in China to thank them for their contributions to promoting cooperation between China and Italy in the fields of economy, culture and education. Prof. Pompeo attended the meeting as a representative of Italian scholars in China and discussed views with the president and other participants on deepening exchanges between the two countries.
Prof. Pompeo Della Posta is a well-known scholar in the field of international trade and economics. He holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Warwick and a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute. He has been an associate professor at the University of Pisa in Italy and the president-elect of the International Trade and Finance Association. He also served as a visiting scholar at Stanford and Princeton University. Since joining BRS in 2022, he has made significant contributions to the school’s academic development, research expansion, and international talent cultivation.
The invitation to participate in the activities related to President Mattarella's visit to China fully demonstrates the international influence and cross-cultural communication capabilities of the Belt and Road School of Beijing Normal University. The school will continue to be committed to promoting academic cooperation and cultural exchanges under the Belt and Road Initiative and contribute more wisdom and strength to the development of international relations.
